Philadelphia – Excellent Schools PA is hosting a tele-town hall with each of the Republican candidates for Governor that will focus on the biggest education issues facing the Commonwealth today.
Despite education being the second largest appropriation in the state budget (37 percent or $11.9 billion going to fund PreK-12 education) and a billion new dollars sent to districts from the state over the past five years, approximately 217,000 students are trapped in schools that are failing to provide the high-quality education they deserve (based on the enrollment in the lowest performing 15 percent of schools).
The series of tele-town halls will provide an opportunity for citizens to hear directly from the candidates about their philosophies on issues such as school choice, school funding and reforming Pennsylvania’s inequitable school system.
“Pennsylvania’s next Governor will spend a great deal of their time working on education matters and we believe it is crucial that citizens know exactly how the candidates plan to ensure that every student has access to a world-class education,” said Steve DeMaura, Executive Director of Excellent Schools PA.
The following is a schedule for each candidate’s tele-town hall:
Paul Mango: Wednesday, May 2 at 6:45 p.m.
Laura Ellsworth: Thursday, May 10 at 7 p.m.
Sen. Scott Wagner: Saturday, May 12 at 7 p.m.
Call-in information for the tele-town halls can be obtained through Excellent Schools PA’s website at https://excellentschoolspa.org/town-hall/.
